Neighbourhood Watch Week
Monday, October 15th will be the start of National Neighbourhood Watch Week celebrating 25 years of Neighbourhood Watch across both England and Wales. This will also coincide with an initiative being run by the Home Office called “Not in my Neighbourhood”.
To celebrate this important week East Staffordshire Neighbourhood Watch will be out and about across the Borough raising awareness of Neighbourhood Watch on a recruitment drive for new Neighbourhood Watch members in our target areas.

Wednesday 17th the team will be at Waterside Advice Shop in Short Street 1pm -3pm again offering a cup of Tea or Coffee in exchange for your views on Neighbourhood watch.
There will be a Neighbourhood Watch display desk at Burton Library all week for people to browse and pick up information, but Emma will also be down there in person on Thursday, October18th, 1.00pm to 3.00pm, to answer any questions.
Finally on Friday, October 19th we will be attending Uttoxeter Library from 1.00pm to 3.00pm supplying more freebies and advices so do pop in for a chat.
The week’s events will be rounded up by the Staffordshire Police’s Annual County Neighbourhood Watch Conference on the Saturday, October 20th to be held at Stafford University Beaconside.
Neighbourhood Watch Manager Emma Newlove said: “This is an ideal opportunity for us to celebrate Neighbourhood Watch and to get out into the community and spread the word of the good work that residents of the Borough get involved in as part of Neighbourhood Watch.”
She continues “We will be answering any questions people may have on Neighbourhood Watch and hoping to set up some new schemes, so it is an ideal opportunity for anyone who has ever shown an interest in setting up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme, but wasn’t too sure of what this entails to come along find out more and take that step to making their neighbourhood a safer place to be”.
There will be lots of leaflets and advice on crime prevention and personal safety, we will also be using these events to help launch this years “No Trick or Treat” door signs that always prove popular for Halloween.
So do please pop along to one of the events if you are available or call Emma or Simon Bullen for more information on Neighbourhood Watch Week on 01785 235938.
How Safe is your Electric Blanket?
During last year’s campaign almost half the blankets tested across Staffordshire were found to be unsafe. Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service and Staffordshire County Council are testing electric blankets free of charge in East Staffordshire in September. Electric blankets that fail the test will not be handed back. Everyone over the age of 60 years, who pays council tax in Staffordshire, will be offered a standard single or double under blanket as a replacement.
Testing will take place at:
Uttoxeter: Town Hall 9.30am-4.00pm on Wednesday 26th September
Burton: Cooper Square 9.30am-4.00pm on Thursday 27th September
