Burn off some of those Christmas calories

There are plenty of opportunities for self-guided walks using some of the many published routes or joining an established group for one of their scheduled outings.

Here on the Abbots Bromley web pages we have a range of local walks varying from 2 to 6 miles which you can download and use whenever is convenient to you.

The local Abbots Bromley Footpath Society has a list of planned walks for 2011 which you would be welcome to join – the first of these is taking place on Sunday 9th January.

Slightly further afield, the East Staffordshire Ramblers have several outings planned for the start of the year and you can find more information on the Ramblers web pages.

If after all this you have still failed to find something that appeals, some other options to explore are:

Get out and about with Ridware YFC

Ridware YFC is a group of young people aged between 14-26 from the surrounding area, who meet at The New Inn, Five Lane Ends, Needwood on Wednesday nights. Our Club Programme is decided and organised by the members, for the members and we are one of the 10 clubs across the County, affiliated to the Staffordshire Young Farmers Clubs, which currently has 690 members.

We hold a wide range of activities including Scavenger Hunts, Craft Workshops, Quiz Nights, Guest Speakers, Tug of War, Sports and Trips out.

Our members all enjoy attending the many Discos and Balls that are held by the County Federation, at various venues across Staffordshire and we also like to get very competitive at the many County Competitions throughout the year. The competitions range from Sports and Public Speaking, to Jazz Dancing and Tractor Handling.

There are opportunities to travel the world, learn new skills, build your confidence, work as part of a team and most importantly, make new friends and have lots of fun.
