Join a walk round Abbots Bromley

Each year the Abbots Bromley Footpath Society plans a programme of twelve monthly walks in the surrounding countryside. The walks usually start and end at the Butter Cross and typically cover 4 to 6 miles. They cover a mixture of terrain including stiles and those intending to joint the walks are advised to come with suitable footwear.

These walks are open to anyone to join in and more details can be found in the 2015 programme.

Abbots Bromley Parish Council has nine members elected to serve for four years. No special qualifications are required to be a Councillor and the majority of those over the age of 18 are eligible to stand.

Councillors must live, work or own land in the parish to qualify and will need to follow a formal process of nomination that will be posted nearer the date of the election.

Acting as a Parish Councillor is unpaid, and requires a commitment of a few hours a month to attend meetings and review documents. Those who are elected to the Council will receive any training required to help them function effectively.

Parish Councils hold a unique place in local government with few duties that they must perform but many powers that they can exercise. The extent to which they are sucessful in promoting and building their own community depends on the level of commitment and enthusiasm of the Councillors and it is an opportunity to to do much – or virtually nothing!

Candidate nomination papers will be available from the Parish Clerk (or from the Town Hall in Burton) towards the end of February.

Completed nomination papers should be delivered in person to the Town Hall, Burton upon Trent, DE14 2EB from Monday 23 March to Friday 27 March inclusive. Election staff will be on hand in the Weaver Room which is situated to the left of the reception desk (in the Town Hall) between 10am and 3pm.

If there are fewer than ten nominations, then those candidates will be elected without a poll.
