Successful year for Bowls Club

Published 25 June 2006

In the 2005 season Abbots Bromley Bowls Club played 32 matches, at home and away, against neighbouring villages and travelling as far as Willington.

The main achievement has been the erection of a much needed new clubhouse. East Staffs. Borough Council awarded £4,500 towards the cost and, thanks to Roy Aitkenhead, several fund raising events were held e.g. a canal trip and a skittles evening. A very large part of the project was carried out by the members, such as the plumbing, wiring, drainage, painting etc.

On Sunday, May 7th there was an Official Opening of the new clubhouse.

Our thanks go to our Chairman, Dave Clements, who has worked so hard in the past year as the driving force behind the building of the new clubhouse. He has dealt with all the necessary application forms for grants, planning permission, building regulations and red tape with fortitude.

For the forthcoming season there are 36 fixtures arranged including matches against the Tennis Club and the Fire Service so members are looking forward to a few months of enjoyable bowling.
