Winner Best Kept Village

Published 1 August 2005

In the fiftieth year of the Best Kept Village competition, Abbots Bromley has not only achieved first place in the large village category in East Staffordshire, but also overall winner in the area. Neighbouring village Newborough was awarded first place in the small villages section.

A number of small improvements around the village have been made in the last year. This result is a fitting tribute to the work put in by many individuals in the village who work to improve the place where we live.

While there are no great monetary rewards for winning the competition, the focus that it gives on our environment is a helpful way of ensuring that we continue to improve and value our village.

Councillor Elkington prepared the competition entry paperwork this year, and with Councillor Needham, forms the “competitions” group on the Parish Council. Sixty eight villages took part in this 50th year of the competition.
