Neighbourhood Watch have reported that a local resident has recently received such a call.

The vulnerable victim wasn’t fully aware of the situation occurring but luckily the victim’s neighbour spotted that the roofers were carrying out work and contacted family relatives to attend. The roofers claimed that the victim owed £350.00 but the family relatives denied paying this as there had been no work carried out.

The roofers were warned off and came back the next day to frighten the victim by sawing a fridge freezer in half and left it on the victim’s drive way and then days later came back
again and poured oil across the driveway.

These scams take advantage of people who are vulnerable and can easily be talked in to thinking there is a problem.

In Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent we have taken a proactive decision to develop an interim solution for the provision of NHS 111 service, and after engaging with other out-of-hours service providers, we have appointed Staffordshire Doctors Urgent Care (SDUC) to work up plans for implementation of the 111 service locally.

SDUC are part of the Vocare Group which currently provides services to over 1.5 million people, including people in Stoke-on-Trent and parts of Staffordshire as the Out of Hours provider. They have a history of providing urgent care services dating back 17 years and are a partner in the North East England NHS 111 service which is one of the best performing in the country.

Patient safety is of upmost importance to us and we will not announce a date for this interim solution to “go-live” until we are satisfied it is totally safe and robust. It will then be introduced in stages, so that we can get the service absolutely right for each local community.

NHS 111 remains a statutory requirement for each Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to provide to their patients and where it is working well, the benefits of the urgent care system are really being highlighted (including in the North East where the service is going from strength to strength0.

In the meantime Staffordshire people who require support outside GP opening hours should continue to call their regular GP number. (This system is currently working well. Calls are currently being answered in the required timeframe, and there has been no significant increase in attendances at Accident & Emergency or in ambulance despatches.)

We appreciate that local communications about NHS 111 have been limited in recent months – this has been regionally and nationally driven due to commercial sensitivities. However, we can now look forward to keeping you fully informed about developments with the service locally.

Last August saw the first of many fund raising efforts towards the upkeep of St Nicholas Church, Abbots Bromley. I can’t quite believe how quickly the year has gone, and now we are back for our “annual” event.

Everybody is welcome and tickets are available on the door. We had a sell out evening last year and looking for more of the same this year.

All dressed up and nowhere to go!

What an opportunity for a fund raiser like me!! We put on a village event, a one off special, appearing at each local pub/restaurant for an hour……

Abbots Bromley villagers and visitors turned out in force to support this unique event – a one off special by the Horn Dancers – to help raise funds for St Nicholas Church, AB.

The weather turned kind and we had sunshine all the way. The crowds came. Local businesses helped with raffles and donations, church teas and cakes had great success, the Mayor was impressed! The village was united in fun and friendship.

My thanks to all of you for your support, for those who helped behind the scenes, and of course to the Horn Dancers themselves.

Brilliant Day!!! AND…….we raised £1301.38 for St Nicholas Church.
